The primary objective of this year's competition was to emphasize the ethical utilization of technologies, such as biometrics, in collecting personal data during electoral processes. Additionally, the competition aimed at highlighting the importance of fair and lawful practices in accessing and safeguarding voter privacy rights.
3Which universities participated in the 2024 edition?
The competition was exclusively open to law students from participating universities in Uganda and Kenya. Participating Universities included: Islamic University In Uganda, King Ceasor University, Egerton University, Bishop Stuart University, Uganda Pentecostal University, University of Embu, Africa Nazarene University, Gulu University, Kampala International University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Daystar University, Cavendish University Uganda, The International University of East Africa, UMMA University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Uganda Christian University, Mukono.

Daystar University, Kenya emerged overall winners of the competition. Coming in second place was Africa Nazarene University, Kenya.

5What were the prizes and awards for the competition?
The competition recognized exceptional performances with awards such as first place ($1,000, a trophy, medals, certificates, and a fully paid trip to attend the 6th Privacy Symposium Africa in November, 2024), second place ($500, a trophy, and certificates), best overall oralist (an accolade and a certificate), best written submissions for the Applicant and Respondent (certificates). Each participant received a certificate of participation.
6What was the format of the competition?
The competition involved simulated legal proceedings in English, starting with written submissions evaluated by a committee of senior law experts. Qualified teams then progressed to the oral phase, where they faced challenging queries from judges. The final round featured teams arguing a hypothetical case centered on the right to privacy and data protection before esteemed judges.

The pre-moot conference was held at Daystar University Nairobi Campus on Thursday, 12th September, 2024.
8When were the preliminary rounds scheduled for each country?
The preliminary rounds for Kenya were held at Daystar University Nairobi Campus on Friday, 13th September, 2024. Uganda's rounds were subsequently held at Islamic University in Uganda on Monday, 16th September, 2024.

The quarter-finals were held at Daystar University Nairobi Campus on Thursday, 19th September, 2024.
