COMMUNIQUÉ: ROADMAP OF THE 5TH EDITION OF THE UNWANTED WITNESS PRIVACY MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2026

The 5th Edition of the Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Court Competition will involve universities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, competing in a structured series of national and regional rounds.

Participants will analyze a moot problem based on legal disputes involving digital financial services and data protection, drawing from international law, regional frameworks, and national legislation.

Teams will submit written memorials and present oral arguments for both the Applicant and the Respondent before panels of judges composed of legal practitioners, academics, regulators, and privacy experts.

National Rounds
National qualifying rounds will be hosted in each participating country as follows:

Uganda
Uganda Christian University, Mukono
All participating universities from Uganda will compete in the national rounds hosted at UCU.


Kenya
Strathmore University, Nairobi
All Kenyan universities will compete in the national rounds at Strathmore University.


Tanzania
University of Dar es Salaam
All Tanzanian universities will compete in the national rounds at the University of Dar es Salaam.

Rwanda
University of Rwanda
All Rwandan universities will compete in the national rounds hosted at the University of Rwanda.


The top-performing teams from each national round will advance to the regional final rounds hosted in Uganda.


Regional Final Rounds

The Regional Finals of the 5th Edition of the Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Court Competition will be held at: Uganda Christian University – Mukono, Uganda

The regional finals will bring together the best teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda to compete for the championship.
